Penn State Addiction Center for Translation is accepting abstracts for virtual oral poster and “data blitz” presentations at the center's Sixth Annual Penn State Addiction Symposium. Submit a 250-word abstract, complete with title, author(s), affiliations, and presenter's email address to PSACT@pennstatehealth.psu.edu. The deadline to submit is Nov. 17.

The Sixth Annual Penn State Addiction Symposium will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 3. The symposium, including poster presentations, will be held virtually.

This year’s symposium will highlight substance use research, treatment, education, and community engagement from all Penn State campuses. The role of Penn State Addiction Center for Translation and how it can better serve the clinicians, researchers and community affiliates of the Hershey campus and beyond will also be discussed.

The keynote speaker will be Susan Sherman, professor of health, behavior and society at Johns Hopkins University. Sherman will present "The Invisible Impact of Gender: Overdose and HIV Risk Environment of Street-based Female Sex Workers." Sherman will describe the unique risk faced by women who use drugs and sell sex. She will also describe a full-service drop-in center and how it has functioned during the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as the police’s role in overdose and HIV/STI outcomes for women who use drugs and sell sex.

The symposium is sponsored by Penn State Addiction Center for Translation, Penn State Clinical and Translational Science Institute and Douglas W. Pollock Center for Addiction Outreach and Research at Penn State Harrisburg.
