UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — As announced in August, Penn State is in the process of retiring Box as a cloud storage and collaboration service and migrating users’ data to other storage options offered by the University, including Microsoft Office 365. Several early adopter units have started the process, and the goal for migrations is to have all units at the University migrated by June 30, 2021, to ensure the successful retirement of Box before the contract ends.
Penn State IT will work with local IT units throughout the migration process and will use an enterprise tool to complete the migrations. However, individual users should prepare for their migration by deleting unused files, removing unnecessary shares and updating the formatting of files and folders as needed.
For guidance on this pre-migration “cleaning” process, several how-to articles are now available. Current Box users are encouraged to review the following articles and implement any necessary changes in their own Box environments.
Additional articles and resources on the migration process are available on the Box migration Resources and Training page on the Box at Penn State website. Check the website regularly for updates. If you have questions or concerns, please contact the Box Migration Team.
