UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Nicole June has been named the College of Earth and Mineral Sciences’ student marshal for Penn State’s fall 2019 undergraduate commencement ceremony on Saturday, Dec. 21.
June will earn her bachelor of science, Magna Cum Laude, in meteorology and atmospheric science. She also will graduate with a minor in geographic information science.
“I came to Penn State for the great reputation of the meteorology and atmospheric science program,” June said. “And, through faculty connections, I quickly found ways to immerse myself in research.”
During her undergraduate career, June obtained a research fellowship at the Geophysical Institute at the University of Alaska Fairbanks, as well as a summer practicum with the International Arctic Research Center. She has presented a research poster at the American Meteorological Society's conference. She also has served as a research assistant at the Laboratory for Atmospheric Research at Washington State University.
“During my time at Penn State, faculty members were really helpful in helping me obtain summer research experiences,” June said. “I feel confident that through these experiences I have the skills needed to be successful in graduate school.”
June served as secretary for Chi Epsilon Pi, the national meteorological honors society. She also has been a peer tutor in her department for an introductory course in weather analysis.
June will continue her work on air quality research this spring for the University of Alaska Fairbanks. She plans on attending graduate school next fall.
At the graduation ceremony, June will be escorted by Eugene Clothiaux, professor of meteorology and atmospheric science.
