College of Engineering announces faculty promotions

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Fourteen Penn State College of Engineering tenure-line faculty members have been selected for promotions, effective July 1.

To be considered for tenure or promotion, a faculty member should have accomplishments in the areas of scholarship of teaching and learning; scholarship of research and creative accomplishments; and service and the scholarship of service to the University, society and the profession.

The following faculty members were promoted to the rank of associate professor and granted tenure:

Additionally, Sahin Ozdemir, associate professor of engineering science and mechanics, was granted tenure.

Seven non-tenure line faculty members were also selected for promotions, effective July 1:

  • Kyusun Choi, teaching professor, computer science and engineering

  • Alan Verbanec, assistant teaching professor, computer science and engineering

  • Siu Ling Leung, associate teaching professor, mechanical engineering

  • Mark Mahon, teaching professor, School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science

  • Sean Knecht, associate teaching professor, School of Engineering Design, Technology, and Professional Programs

  • Meg Handley, associate teaching professor, School of Engineering Design, Technology, and Professional Programs

  • Stephanie Cutler, associate research professor, the Leonhard Center
