UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — The College of Engineering graduate program was rated 32nd in the country by U.S. News & World Report in its Best Graduate Schools 2018 edition.
The report, released March 14, surveyed 214 graduate programs that grant doctoral degrees across the country with 198 responding.
Three programs — biological engineering, industrial engineering and nuclear engineering — were in the top 10 of their specialty categories. Eight programs – biological engineering, biomedical engineering, chemical engineering, electrical engineering, environmental engineering, industrial engineering, mechanical engineering and nuclear engineering – improved since last year’s report. Computer engineering remained unchanged.
Under the publication's specialty categories, Penn State aerospace engineering was ranked No. 15, biological engineering No. 9, biomedical No. 36, chemical engineering No. 21, civil engineering No. 21, computer engineering No. 21, electrical engineering No. 26, environmental engineering No. 15, industrial engineering No. 8, materials No. 13, mechanical engineering No. 15 and nuclear engineering No. 8.
U.S. News does not survey the disciplines of acoustics, architectural engineering, and engineering science and mechanics. Computer science is ranked every four years.
Penn State's online graduate engineering program through World Campus was rated No. 4.
