HERSHEY, Pa. — Nikolay Dokholyan, G. Thomas Passananti Professor and vice chair for research in the Department of Pharmacology at Penn State College of Medicine, has been named a fellow of the American Institute for Medical and Biological Engineering (AIMBE).

Dokholyan, also a professor of biochemistry and molecular biology, biomedical engineering, chemistry and a researcher with Penn State Cancer Institute and Penn State Neuroscience Institute, joins AIMBE’s College of Fellows, which includes more than 1,500 scientists who are outstanding leaders, engineers, entrepreneurs and innovators in biological and medical engineering. His research focuses on the development and application of integrated computational and experimental strategies to understand, sense and control misfolded proteins in order to better understand how human neurodegenerative diseases occur and to develop therapies to fight them.

Fellows are nominated by current fellows and selected based on their accomplishments in biomedical engineering research.

“I am proud to join this group of elite scholars as we work to shape public policy related to biomedical engineering and educate the next generation of scientists,” Dokholyan said. “Together, we can demonstrate how our work in this unique field can benefit society now and in the future.”
