UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -- Rebecca H. Ripley will be the student marshal for the College of Engineering at Penn State's summer commencement ceremony Aug. 10. Ripley will receive a bachelor of science degree in electrical engineering.
She has chosen Jeffrey Schiano, associate professor of electrical engineering, to be her faculty escort.
College of Engineering student marshals are selected for their outstanding academic achievement and contributions to engineering student life.
Ripley is the daughter of Nancy and Bill Ripley, of Swarthmore. She is a 2009 graduate of Ridley High School.
Her Penn State awards and honors include the Eta Kappa Nu Barnak Award, the President's Freshman Award, the President Sparks Award and the Evan Pugh Scholar Award (junior and senior).
She was the recipient of the Clifford B. Holt Jr. Memorial Scholarship, the Lockheed Martin Scholarship, the Academic Excellence Scholarship, the Engineering Honors Scholarship, the Ferguson Memorial Honors Scholarship, the Madden Honors Scholarship and the Kray Scholarship in Engineering.
Ripley is member of Phi Sigma Rho, a national sorority for women in engineering and science, and Eta Kappa Nu, an electrical and computer engineering honor society. During the 2012-13 academic year, she was vice president of the Penn State Eta Kappa Nu chapter.
Her additional accomplishments include an internship with The Boeing Co., where she assisted with wire harness design, and an undergraduate research project through the Penn State College of Engineering titled "Investigation of Attitude and Translational Rate Command Control Laws for a Ship-based Helicopter."
