UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — The Penn State Engineering Graduate Student Council’s 13th annual College of Engineering Research Symposium (CERS) will be held from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. April 5 at the Nittany Lion Inn. The event is free and open to the public.
The student-initiated, student-run symposium features research papers, oral presentations and poster displays from undergraduate and graduate students in multiple engineering disciplines.
An "Art in Science" competition will showcase the artistic viewpoints often found in scientific explorations.
CERS also provides students opportunities to network with industry representatives, faculty and researchers from various fields.
This year’s keynote speaker is 1987 aerospace engineering alumnus Robert Braun, David and Andrew Lewis Professor of Space Technology at the Georgia Institute of Technology. His talk, titled “Entry, Descent and Landing Technology Investments to Enable a New Era of Mars Exploration,” will include an introduction from Penn State President Eric Barron.
Research/travel grants for best paper and poster presentations and "Art in Science" awards will be presented during a ceremony at the conclusion of the program.
CERS 2016 corporate sponsors include Bohler Engineering, GE, Intel, MathWorks, Norfolk Southern, Tenneco, and Vanguard. Event funding is also provided by the University Park Allocation Committee and the University Park Graduate and Professional Student Association.
Chemical engineering graduate student Zhifeng Chen and bioengineering graduate student Keith Mickolajczyk, CERS 2016 co-chairs, said, “CERS provides a professional forum for students to share and present their research in the forms of papers, posters and oral presentations. We are excited to organize this event on behalf of the Engineering Graduate Student Council and the College of Engineering, and hope that it will further strengthen the excellent research being done at Penn State.”
