UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Undergraduate students are now able to apply for the 2019 Erickson Discovery Grants, with applications due in January instead of February.

Each year dozens of undergraduate students from all campuses are selected to receive a $3,500 grant in support of student engagement in original research, scholarship and creative work under the supervision of a faculty member. In years past, grant applications have been open from early January to mid-February.

This year applications will be open from Oct. 15 through Jan. 21, 2019. Those interested in applying can do so here.

This past summer 72 undergraduate students bolstered their scholarly work through the use of an Erickson Grant, which covered living expenses and project costs related to their undergraduate academic work, including supplies, materials, books, software and travel. Projects are student-initiated and can come from all academic fields at Penn State.

There are two upcoming information sessions scheduled at University Park that also will be available via a Zoom link for remote log in. The first is slated for 11 a.m. to noon Nov. 7 in 121 Thomas Building and at this Zoom link. The second is scheduled for 6 to 7 p.m. Nov. 29 in 107 Sackett Building, or from this Zoom link.

The program is named in honor of Rodney A. Erickson, the 17th president of Penn State.
