UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — The Energy and Environmental Sustainability Laboratories (EESL) has announced that the EESLGreen program will return in 2018. EESLGreen is a program that awards Penn State researchers funding for projects that use EESL research facilities.
“We plan to award a total of $15,000 this year,” said Odette Mina, managing director of EESL. “The program is open to any Penn State students, postdocs and faculty.”
To be considered for the program, researchers must submit a one-page proposal request highlighting the project idea, team member names; adviser’s name; unit affiliations; the research question(s); the reason funding is needed for the project; specific analytical services needed — EESL lab(s); and detailed budget. Researchers are encouraged to contact EESL lab representatives to discuss their research needs and determine the budget needed for analytical services. Only EESL analytical services will be funded.
Proposals must be sent to odette.mina@psu.edu by 5 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 1. Awards will range from $1,000 to $2,500.
EESLGreen awards will be announced at the third annual EESL wine and cheese open house, to be held from 4 to 6 p.m. on Oct. 11 at the Atherton Hotel. To qualify for the award, proposers must be present when awards are announced at the open house event.
EESL is a group of shared, multi-user instrumentation facilities that tie together world-class instrumentation and expertise in a broad array of analytical techniques covering materials in all phases. A part of the Institutes of Energy and the Environment (IEE), EESL was created to offer researchers the opportunity to work with cutting-edge research equipment in the areas of energy and the environment.
The Institutes of Energy and the Environment works to build teams of experts from different disciplines to see how new ways of thinking can solve some of the world’s most difficult energy and environmental challenges. IEE understands that the world needs sustainable sources of energy, while simultaneously protecting and developing a healthy planet, people and economy.
