UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — International Education Week (IEW) at Penn State is Nov. 16-20 this year. The week is a joint initiative of the U.S. Department of State and the U.S. Department of Education “as part of their efforts to promote programs that prepare Americans to successfully operate in a global marketplace and attract future leaders from abroad to study and learn in this country,” according to the IEW website.
Penn State’s Office of Global Programs has a long tradition of hosting events throughout IEW, so that students can participate in multicultural activities and learn more about opportunities for global education at Penn State. This year, with the pandemic, the event will be moving to a virtual platform.
Global Programs, along with other departments on campus, will be hosting virtual events and activities for the Penn State community to participate in throughout the week. All members of the Penn State community, including students, faculty and staff from all campuses should feel welcome and encouraged to participate in the week’s activities. The IEW schedule of events can be found here.
“Penn State is thrilled to join institutions across the country to celebrate International Education Week,” said Roger Brindley, vice provost for Global Programs. “In a world that is inextricably globally connected, providing international experiences and multicultural learning for students is a top priority. We hope students enjoy the activities of the week and learn more about their world through their global participation!”
The week will also provide students with ways to win prizes. By attending an event during IEW, a student’s name is automatically entered for a chance to win a $50 gift card; attending more events means more of a chance to win. The IEW planning committee will be selecting two random daily winners from the attendee lists.
There is also a photo contest: Students can be entered for the chance to win a $25 gift card by submitting a photo showcasing their international experiences to the IEW photo contest, here.
