UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Through its Travel Grant initiative, Global Programs aims to support travel related to internationalizing education and research opportunities in any discipline. These grants provide some of the resources to support faculty travel related to developing global awareness, global literacy and global competency among our undergraduate population and to promote global leadership in scholarship and international engagements for graduate students.
“We view travel grants as our way to assist and encourage (graduate) students to connect their research and scholarship to something larger than themselves,” said Mel White, associate director for global operations and learning in Global Programs. “Areas where this would be the case are the foundations and priorities identified in the University’s strategic plan, goals found in Global Programs’ strategic plan, and in any of the U.N.’s Sustainable Development Goals.”
The categories of grants are designed to encourage new applications and recognize the work already accomplished in the internationalization of curriculum and globalization of the campuses. Broadly, the grants are as follows:
- Faculty Travel Grants: Award up to $3,000 for international faculty travel to explore new short-term program opportunities or to accompany students on a new short-term program.
- Graduate Student Travel Grants: Award up to $1500 for graduate students who are scheduled to present their work at an international conference or other major professional meeting outside of the United States.
