History professor's lecture to air on C-SPAN3’s American History TV

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -- A lecture by Penn State professor Tobias Brinkmann will air on C-SPAN3’s American History TV (AHTV) at 8 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 17. In State College, Pa., C-SPAN3 is available on Comcast Channel 105. On campus, C-SPAN3 is available on Channel 79. 

Brinkmann is the Malvin and Lea Bank Associate Professor of Jewish Studies and History in the College of Liberal Arts.In this program, Brinkmann and his class discuss the history of immigration and the work of the Dillingham Commission. That panel, formally known as the U.S. Immigration Commission, began its work in 1907 and concluded that immigration from Europe posed a threat to American society and culture and should be reduced. The commission’s findings inspired the immigration restriction acts of the 1920s, including the Emergency Quota Act of 1921.With event coverage, eyewitness accounts and discussions with authors, historians and teachers, AHTV is available every weekend from 8 a.m. Saturday to 8 a.m. Monday on C-SPAN3. AHTV features programming geared toward history lovers with 48 hours every weekend of people and events that document the American story.At 8 p.m. each Saturday, a different college lecture is featured as part of the channel’s “Lectures in History” series.Brinkmann’s lecture will also be available for online viewing on Monday, Aug. 26, at http://www.c-span.org/History/.
