UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Eric Iavarone has been named the College of Engineering’s student marshal for Penn State’s summer commencement ceremony on Aug. 10. Iavarone will graduate with two degrees: a bachelor of architectural engineering and a master of architectural engineering (structural option).
He has chosen Linda Hanagan, associate professor of architectural engineering, to be his faculty escort.
College of Engineering student marshals are selected for their outstanding academic achievement and contributions to engineering student life.
While at Penn State, Iavarone received the President's Freshman Award, the President Sparks Award and the Evan Pugh Scholar Award. He also was the recipient of the Simpson Gumpertz & Heger Scholarship, the Borda & Fernsler Trustee Scholarship, the Class of 1969 Renaissance Scholarship, the P.J. During the competition, he contributed to a redesign of the Jack H. Miller Center for Musical Arts in Holland, Michigan, and was one of three structural designers on the team.
Iavarone completed three internships while at Penn State. He worked as a building technology intern with Simpson Gumpertz & Heger, where he assisted with the building enclosure design for new and existing buildings. He worked as an office engineer with Holder Construction Company, where he managed and coordinated the work of numerous subcontracts. And he worked as an engineering, scientific and technical intern (ESTI) for Pennsylvania Department of Transportation’s District 1 office.
Iavarone is a 2014 graduate of McDowell High School in Erie, Pennsylvania. He is the son of Brian Iavarone, of Girard, Pennsylvania and of Denise Iavarone of Erie, Pennsylvania.
