UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Professor Emeritus A. “Ravi” Ravindran, a world-renowned expert on operations research, along with Professor Vittal Prabhu, an expert on service enterprise engineering, are co-authors of a new book that emphasizes the application of operations research models to better design and manage service systems.
"Service Systems Engineering and Management," published by CRC Press, LLC and released in April, provides “state-of-the-art models, concepts and solution methods in the design, control, operation and management of service systems.”
It also covers supply chain management, warehouse and distribution, financial engineering, revenue management in airlines, retail engineering, health systems and financial services.
The book is the first of its kind, as many service management textbooks tend to be geared toward the business school audience rather than engineering students.
Paul Griffin, St. Vincent Health Chair of Healthcare Engineering and professor of industrial engineering at Purdue University, also is a co-author of the book. He previously was the head of the Harold and Inge Marcus Department of Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering at Penn State from 2009 to 2014.
More information about "Service Systems Engineering and Management" can be found on the CRC Press website.
