UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -- College of Information Sciences and Technology students joined industry leaders in San Francisco in early March for the annual RSA Conference to network and share innovative ideas regarding the protection of digital data. This event hosts more than 50,000 attendees each year and is known as the largest cybersecurity conference in the world.
Hosted March 4-8, this year’s event included presentations, workshops and training sessions from security professionals.
For the fourth consecutive year, the College of IST made it possible for students to attend the event. University Park senior Jared Trigili and World Campus graduate student William Paetsch attended as part of the conference’s Security Scholar program. The program connects up-and-coming cybersecurity students with leading experts, peers and conference attendees to share knowledge, experience and connections in an effort to stay ahead of cyber threats.
Trigili shared his experience meeting with fellow technology students and security specialists, and learning of opportunities available to him in his career.
“As a student, it was a fantastic experience that provided me a glimpse into what exciting work I can look forward to in this field,” he said.
The students were able to engage with security professionals from leading technology corporations during networking events and panels to learn of technology trends and current solutions to network challenges. This opportunity presented students with new perspectives they can apply to their own academic and professional careers.
“I had the opportunity to represent the College of IST and meet not only other students as interested in the cybersecurity industry as myself, but also industry experts who were able to offer advice and perspectives on getting into and working in the field,” Trigili said.
The next RSA Conference will be held in February 2020 in San Francisco.
