IST's Giles receives Gabor Award from International Neural Network Society

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Lee Giles, the David Reese Professor of Information Sciences and Technology and interim associate dean of research for the College of Information Sciences and Technology (IST), was recently presented with the 2014 Gabor Award from the International Neural Network Society (INNS).

Giles, a member of IST’s faculty since 2000 and the author of more than 300 published works, received the Gabor Award in acknowledgement of his achievements in engineering and application. His work on neural networks showed that fundamental computational structures such as regular grammars and finite state machines could be theoretically represented in recurrent neural networks.

The INNS Awards Program aims to recognize the outstanding contributions of researchers in the field of neural networks. Awards are presented annually by the board of governors of the INNS, of which Giles is a fellow.
