Jablokow recognized for her work in online education

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Kathryn Jablokow, associate professor of mechanical engineering and engineering design at Penn State Great Valley, was recognized by OnlineEngineeringPrograms.com (OEP) as one of five influential engineering professors teaching online in 2015.

The list, compiled by OEP, recognizes the academic contributions of exceptional professors in online education. OEP selected the five professors based on their university affiliation, publications, awards and research grants, and experience and leadership.

“Receiving this recognition in online education is especially important as we continue to explore new delivery modes at Penn State. Expanding our online programs while maintaining our high standards is both exciting and challenging, and it's great to be recognized for breaking new ground,” Jablokow said.

Jablokow teaches a series of advanced creativity and problem-solving courses online through Penn State’s World Campus as a cornerstone of interdisciplinary graduate programs in systems engineering and engineering management. She also co-teaches a massive open online course (MOOC) on Creativity, Innovation, and Change (CIC) through Coursera. The CIC MOOC remains one of the top 10 most popular MOOCs and is currently being translated into Chinese.

Jablokow earned her doctorate degree in electrical engineering from the Ohio State University and has been awarded multiple grants from the National Science Foundation to study design, cognition, advanced manufacturing, and engineering creativity. She is a senior member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE), a senior research fellow of the Occupational Research Centre in the United Kingdom, a fellow of the American Society of Mechanical Engineering (ASME), and a member the American Society for Engineering Education (ASEE).

Sechel Ventures owns and operates OEP with the mission to provide rich and informative content that addresses specific educational questions in the field of engineering.
