Jim Jansen, a professor of information sciences and technology (IST) in the College of IST at Penn State, has recently been selected as the new editor-in-chief of Information Processing and Management (IPM), “a leading international journal focusing on publishing peer-related original research concerning theory, methods, or application in the field of science,” according to Elsevier, the journal’s publisher.
"Information Processing and Management has been a flagship journal for the field of information science for decades, so I feel a lot of responsibility to continue and even enhance the journal's impact in our ever-changing domain," said Jansen, about the editor-in-chief position that he assumed on Jan. 1. This position previously was held by Fabio Crestani, who stepped down after eight years of service and now sits on the editorial board.
Jansen, who is currently on sabbatical from IST at the Qatar Computing Research Institute, sits on editorial boards of six international journals and remains active in teaching graduate and undergraduate courses. He is the author of more than 200 articles relating to information technology and systems, and author of two books on related subjects: "Understanding Sponsored Search" and "Web Search: Public Searching of the Web," as well as co-author of "Handbook of Weblog Analysis."
