UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Brenda Johnson, administrative support assistant in the College of Communications, has been honored with the 2017 Support Staff Award.
The award recognizes the overall high-quality performance of a full-time member of the support staff with at least five years of active service in fulfilling the mission of the University and of his or her college or administrative unit. It also recognizes dedicated focus to customer service, commitment to quality improvement, outstanding skills and abilities, teamwork and professionalism.
“Brenda isn’t interested with doing the minimum amount of work to get by,” said a nominator. “She’s always striving to do more, and her leadership has been vital to academic services success in recruiting, advising and graduation.”
Johnson took the lead in helping academic services go paperless while maintaining confidential files. She’s also been instrumental in leading the college’s effort to adopt environmentally friendly initiatives. Johnson is an asset in training staff to use the applications LionPATH and Starfish, which are vital for students and faculty.
She is the first person students see when entering the academic services office and she’s skilled at handling student needs.
“Never had there been a single complaint from any of the thousands of students who have interacted with her over the years,” said a nominator. “Instead, they praise her for the way she reassures them, remembers them and takes an interest in their lives.”
