UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Faculty and graduate students are needed to serve as judges for the Center for Global Studies’ Undergraduate Research Symposium on April 11. Volunteers are being sought from various disciplines within the humanities, sciences, social sciences and professional. Each judge will read between six and eight papers and will provide written input based on a rubric. Judges will also be asked to attend the oral presentations requiring a two-hour commitment (10:15 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. or 1 to 3 p.m.) on April 11.
The students — from Penn State and the University of Pittsburgh — will address the theme of interconnectedness. Each student will have 12 minutes to give a presentation derived from the papers they submitted. This year’s papers and presentations (see categories and titles below) focus on diverse areas such as development, economy, gender, health, social justice, and migration and understanding. After the presentation, the panel will have five additional minutes to ask questions.
The symposium will be held at The Penn Stater Conference Center Hotel from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Professor Khanjan Mehta, director of the Humanitarian Engineering and Social Entrepreneurship (HESE) Program at Penn State and Sophia McClennen, director of the Center for Global Studies at Penn State, will deliver the keynote address and closing remarks, respectively.
