CENTER VALLEY, Pa. — Nichola Gutgold, professor of communication arts and sciences at Penn State Lehigh Valley, is visiting the University of Zagreb in Croatia from Nov. 5 to Nov. 11 for a visiting professorship. Gutgold is presenting on the obstacles women face when seeking leadership roles.
The office of Global Programs at Penn State collaborates with the University of Zagreb in Croatia each year to identify Penn State faculty who would contribute to the curriculum at the University of Zagreb. Gutgold was selected for 2017. The University of Zagreb provided funding for her to travel to Croatia.
While in Croatia, Gutgold is presenting her research to students, attending receptions and providing students with a number of "get to know the visiting professor" sessions. Through her research, Gutgold aims to shed light on the women who have paved the way for the eventual election of a woman U.S. president. Gutgold is sharing women’s biographies that resonate with school-age and college-age audiences and inspire young women to pursue leadership roles.
