UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Penn State University Libraries has expanded its University Park campus Office Delivery Service to graduate students, now enabling anyone with an on-campus office mailing address to request library materials online for transfer through Campus Mail. This service and standard materials pickup at Pattee Library’s Commons Services desk also supersede the temporary self-service pickup option created in summer 2020 at Pattee Library and Paterno Library that concluded after University Park libraries fully reopened at the beginning of August.
While the option to pick up requested items for all University Park library users remains at the central first floor Pattee Library Commons Services Desk, library materials available for borrowing from the University Libraries’ catalog as well as those obtained via Interlibrary Loan request are eligible for the Office Delivery Service.
Setting up this service is quick and easy and only requires three steps. First, the library user should confirm that their library borrowing privileges are active. Borrowing privileges are automatically activated for students and most faculty and staff. If a Penn State library user discovers their account has not been activated, enabling borrowing privileges and creating a My Library Account (MyAccount) to confirm checkouts and holds requested, they should email ul-lending@psu.edu to request assistance.
Once an individual’s borrowing privileges have been confirmed, then the user needs to create an ILLiad account, which also will enable the user to request items through Interlibrary Loan. Then the user should confirm their on-campus office mailing address in both the My Library Account and ILLiad account. Links to both accounts may be found at the top of the University Libraries website under the “MyAccount” button.
Finally, after locating a circulating, available item in the Libraries’ collection, the user should select the “I Want It” button to place a hold on the item and select “UP Faculty/Staff/Grad Office Delivery” for the pickup location. To request items via Interlibrary Loan through ILLiad, registered users should also select this option for their pickup location.
Delivery times for requested items via interoffice mail will vary based on the original location of the item requested.
