Penn State Berks will sponsor its first Local Hack Day from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 10, in room 106 of the Gaige Technology and Business Innovation Building. This event is a 12-hour mini-hackathon where the local student hacker community teams up to build things like websites, applications and hardware hacks. Simultaneously, students from other colleges and universities around the world will be hosting their own Local Hack Days, resulting in the largest single day of student hacking ever. At the end of the event, teams show off their hacks to the world. Throughout the day there will be live streams, chat rooms and other activities.Local Hack Day is sponsored by Major League Hacking (MLH), a worldwide student hackathon league. According to their website, “Local Hack Day brings together the students at your school for 12 hours of learning, community, and building.” More than 150 local hackathons participate in the event. The local event at Penn State Berks is being organized by the Penn State Berks Developer Network, a community created to get students involved in actively increasing their skill sets and collaborating with fellow students in all areas of technology. To sign up for the Penn State Berks Local Hack Day, go to localhackday.mlh.io and sign up as an attendee. Choose Penn State Berks / Reading as the location.
