UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -- A memorial service for William Pencak, Penn State professor emeritus of American history and Jewish studies, will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 18, in Eisenhower Chapel of the Pasquerilla Spiritual Center.
Pencak passed away Dec. 9, 2013, following surgery. His Penn State career started in 1983 at the Abington campus and in 1995, he moved to the University Park campus. He taught many courses in the Department of History and published major articles and books on numerous topics in colonial America. A great collaborator with friends and colleagues, he was well-known for his support of young historians, working with 30 doctoral students and directing seven students.
