UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — The Office of the Vice President for Research has launched cyberinfrastructure.psu.edu to help faculty and staff find data, cyber, programming and IT resources available to researchers at Penn State. The site covers broad categories that include, but are not limited to, data storage, cloud computing, networking, research instrumentation software and much more.

“This resource represents the superset of technical services available from Enterprise IT, the Institute for CyberScience, Research Administration, the Office of Information Security, the University Libraries, the Office of Research Information Systems, and the OVPR research institutes," said Greg Madden, senior advisor for research computing and cyberinfrastructure at Penn State.

Madden noted that the current list of resources has been curated over several years. It likely is the first time the University has undertaken an effort to discover and document the many technical services available to researchers, who increasingly need support and services to manage large data sets or project-specific cyberinfrastructure solutions.

“It was definitely a cooperative effort involving people from across many different areas and offices of the University,” Madden said.

Madden’s group will be developing processes for working with the owners of the various resources to keep the list up-to-date. Researchers or resource owners who have additions, updates or questions about the site, or researchers who need consulting on cyberinfrastrure resources for their project, can contact researchguru@psu.edu.

“Although a listing like this is helpful for researchers to begin navigating the broad range of resources at Penn State, one-on-one, tailored help is also always available from our group,” Madden said.
