UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Nominations are now being accepted for the Rosemary Schraer Mentoring Award, established in 1994 by family, friends and colleagues of Rosemary Schraer, a former associate provost of Penn State and former chancellor of the University of California, Riverside.
The award is presented each year to a Penn State employee, regardless of gender, who exemplifies Schraer's giving of herself as a mentor and who has voluntarily, over a breadth of time, helped others recognize and achieve their potential. Consideration is given to employees who have a record of outstanding mentoring service that goes beyond the requirements of their employment duties and responsibilities.
The Commission for Women reviews award nominations and selects the winner of the award. The recipient of the Rosemary Schraer Mentoring Award will be honored at the Faculty and Staff Awards Ceremony on the University Park campus in the spring of 2025.
Penn State faculty, staff, administrators and technical service employees across the University are eligible to be nominated for the award.
Nominations should include:
- A completed nomination form.
- A nomination letter (maximum of two pages).
- Additional detailed letters of support (maximum of three).
Letters from mentees are strongly encouraged. Letters should include examples of the nominee’s giving of themselves as a mentor who has voluntarily, over a period of time, helped others recognize and achieve their potential by:
- Advising — impactful advice/guidance to mentees.
- Facilitation — providing opportunities for learning and development
- Encouragement and Empowerment — building confidence; helping to achieve goals; impact of mentoring on individuals and institution.
Nominators should share information regarding criteria for the award with authors of letters of support.
