Nominations sought for the NCAA Faculty Athletics Representative

Review of nominations will begin on Nov. 1, 2016

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — The University Faculty Senate is accepting nominations for a faculty athletics representative (FAR) to the National Collegiate Athletic Association.

The FAR is appointed by the president of the University following nomination by the Senate. The FAR is a tenured professor at University Park with a full-time faculty appointment. The FAR serves under the direction of the president and represents the faculty in all matters related to varsity athletics at University Park.

A description of the duties and responsibilities of the NCAA FAR can be found at http://senate.psu.edu/intercollegiate-athletics-committee-priority-form/ncaa-faculty-athletics-representative-position-description/. The position is considered a 40 percent time commitment. 

The appointment lasts five years, is renewable and is reviewed by the president in consultation with the Senate Committee on Intercollegiate Athletics at the end of each five-year term.

Linda L. Caldwell, distinguished professor of Recreation, Parks and Tourism Management and Human Development and Family Studies, will step down from the FAR position in summer 2017. Caldwell has served in this role since 2010.

Letters of nomination, including a description of the nominee’s credentials and experience relevant to the position, may be sent to Paula Brown (pmg1@psu.edu) in the Office of the University Faculty Senate, 101 Kern Graduate Building. Review of nominations will begin on Nov. 1, 2016.
