UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -- On Wednesday, Nov. 26, a nor’easter blanketed a large portion of the east coast in snow, ice and rain. With students returning from the holiday break on Friday and a home football game on Saturday, the Office of Physical Plant's snow removal operation faced a busy few days.

OPP crews began work during the storm, taking care of most University Park's 15,000 parking spaces, 35 miles of paved roads and 77 miles of paved walkways. Snow removal began in the 106,357-seat Beaver Stadium on Friday.

Using 300 shovels, 175 ice buckets and more than 73,000 pounds of Ice Melt, 220 OPP employees worked from 7 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. Friday, and another 200 worked from 7 to 11 a.m. Saturday. Snow was removed from the student section via slides that emptied onto the field before being trucked out of the stadium, while snow in other sections was moved underneath the seats and bleachers.
