Penn State Harrisburg has made sweeping changes to its undergraduate humanities program to provide students with more flexibility to tailor the program to their interests, and to offer a more robust presence in the fields of history, philosophy and the arts.

Broad curriculum changes to the program focus on research and writing to provide a solid foundation for individuals interested in creative writing, writing instruction, history, literature, philosophy and the performing and visual arts.

The new bachelor of arts degree program requires students to complete two newly developed introductory (100-200 level) courses, providing earlier exposure to different humanities fields. The program also encourages students to complete a minor in areas such as business, history or writing, and provides excellent internship opportunities thanks to the campus' close proximity to local arts and theater organizations and government entities.

The humanities major prepares students for careers in the arts, arts administration, business, corporate communications, government, teaching, museum work, and law, as well as providing an excellent foundation for graduate study in a liberal arts field.
