Penn State names manager for World Campus Master of Health Administration

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Jennifer Scanlon has been named the new co-curricular program manager for the online Master of Health Administration program, a collaboration between Penn State World Campus and the Penn State Department of Health Policy and Administration. The co-curricular program manager of the online MHA program manages its day-to-day operations.

“Assisting students, who bring such a wealth of diverse experience and passion for continued learning, to achieve their educational goals drew me to this position,” Scanlon said. “I feel very fortunate to be working with such a talented and dedicated group of educators and staff.”

Christopher Calkins, executive director of both the residential and online Master of Health Administration programs, said Scanlon brings a unique set of professional experiences to the online MHA program, which aligns well with the diversity of professional roles occupied by its students.

Scanlon, who has master of health administration and master of business administration degrees from the University of Pittsburgh, previously served as a nursing home administrator, director of a hospital-based transitional care unit, and as senior consultant for Ernst and Young.

“Scanlon’s background, coupled with her warmth and commitment to education excellence, are a perfect match for our team and our students,” Calkins said.

Scanlon replaces Jennifer Deutsch, who was recently selected as the program director and instructor of the new online bachelor of science degree in Health Policy and Administration offered through the Penn State World Campus and Department of Health Policy and Administration in the College of Health and Human Development.

“We are very fortunate to have found someone who has extensive and relevant education and experience to provide guidance and support for our online MHA students,” said Marianne Hillemeier, professor and head of the Department of Health Policy and Administration.

A degree in health policy and administration prepares students to work in a variety of health care organizations, such as hospitals, physician practices, home health agencies, health insurance companies, medical device manufacturers, research and policy organizations or governmental agencies.
