Penn State Smeal branding panel to feature views from a variety of companies

Penn State Smeal College of Business students interested in careers in branding will have a unique opportunity to hear perspectives from professionals that range from emerging startups to established multi-national companies.

“Forging a Career in Branding” is scheduled for 5 to 6:30 p.m. Monday, Sept. 11, in 110 Business Building, the Struthers Auditorium. The event, which is open to all students but of particular interest to marketing majors, will feature representatives from companies known for their branding efforts.

“Students will benefit from hearing a variety of viewpoints from companies that place a priority on branding,” said Jennifer Chang Coupland, clinical professor of marketing and Paiste Fellow in Teaching and Learning. She helped to organize the event, along with student organization Penn State Prime.

Penn State Prime is an organization started in 2015 by marketing and communications students. It is intended to give students exposure to branding, marketing and new media, and analytics. Students involved with Prime engage in networking events with top advertising agencies, gain real-world experience, and spearhead projects outside of their comfort zone and classroom.

1978 Smeal accounting alumnus Timmy Garde, the chief innovation leader for LevLane Advertising, will serve as the moderator of the discussion.

Panelists will include:

  • Nick Bayer, CEO, Saxbys
  • Jenna Dowd, 2015 Smeal graduate in marketing, senior assistant brand manager, Unilever
  • Ashlynn Eidemiller, 2015 Smeal graduate in marketing, associate brand manager, Johnson & Johnson
  • Sherry Korczynski, 1991 Smeal graduate in marketing, senior vice president of marketing, Eagle Pharmaceuticals
  • Melissa Schipke, 2009 Smeal graduate in marketing, CEO and co-founder, Tassl

Students who attend are invited to a post-panel reception on the Business Building 3rd floor terrace.

To RSVP, students are asked to fill out a Google Form online.
