Penn State Smeal’s Petersen wins Varadarajan Award

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -- J. Andrew Petersen, associate professor of marketing in the Penn State Smeal College of Business, has been named the winner of the 2017 Varadarajan Award for Early Career Contributions to Marketing Strategy Research.

The award is presented by the American Marketing Association’s Marketing Strategy SIG. It recognizes the contributions of a marketing faculty member who has completed 10 or fewer years after receipt of his/her doctoral degree.

A three-member panel of past winners and/or editors of Journal of Marketing/Journal of Marketing Research found Petersen’s research accomplishments “to be highly remarkable and deserving of this year’s award.”

Petersen’s research interests include measuring and maximizing customer/donor lifetime value (CLV/DLV) and customer/donor equity, managing customer product return behavior, measuring the value of word-of-mouth, selling and sales management, and linking marketing metrics to financial performance.

His research has been published in the Journal of Marketing, Journal of Marketing Research, Harvard Business Review, MIT Sloan Management Review, the Wall Street Journal, Journal of Retailing, Journal of the Academy of Marketing Science, and Journal of Service Research, among others.

Petersen holds a doctorate in business administration, with a marketing concentration, from the University of Connecticut. He earned a bachelor’s degree in economics, with honors, from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
