UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Helen Storey, a lecturer in English in the College of the Liberal Arts at Penn State, has been honored by the Association of Literary Scholars, Critics, and Writers with its Stephen J. Meringoff Writing Award in fiction. The award includes a $2,000 prize.
The Meringoff awards are given annually for a poem, a work of fiction, and a work of creative nonfiction.
A creative writing and composition specialist, Storey won the award for several chapters taken from her recently completed novel, “Gris-Gris.” The chapters will be published in either the association’s journal Literary Imagination or its Literary Matters newsletter.
Storey has been a full-time lecturer at Penn State for two years and teaches creative writing and composition.
