UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — The Undergraduate Research and Fellowships Mentoring (URFM) office will hold a series of virtual information sessions for those considering applying for international post-graduate fellowships. The events are co-sponsored by the Schreyer Honors College.
“Competitive Opportunities for Graduate Study Abroad” will feature 10 sessions during the week of Feb. 1-5. Registration is required for all events, and a full schedule can be found here.
Undergraduate students and recent graduates will be able to learn about the Rhodes, Marshall, Mitchell and Churchill scholarships. There will also be information about the Gates Cambridge Scholarship, Schwarzman Scholarship, Knight-Hennessy Scholars and Yenching Academy.
A Feb. 5 event called “Unlocking Your Potential” will be an interactive session designed to help students plan their career at Penn State and develop into a competitive fellowship and scholarship applicant. First- through third-year students are encouraged to attend.
Like other major fellowship winners, Penn State’s A’dryanna Jenkins spent months working with her support system and URFM to prepare the materials for the Marshall Scholarship. The Marshall Scholarship provides funding for students to study for a graduate degree at any U.K. institution in any field of study.
Students interested in the Rhodes, Marshall, Mitchell and Churchill scholarships must be recommended by Penn State to the respective scholarship boards. After completing her initial application and interviewing with URFM, Jenkins took the rest of 2020 to refine her essays for application to the Marshall board as URFM worked to gather letters of recommendation on her behalf.
Jenkins, who will graduate in spring 2021, was one of just 50 U.S. students who earned the honor. She will study pathology at Cambridge University for one year.
The deadline to apply to URFM for the Rhodes, Marshall, Mitchell and Churchill scholarships is March 21. The session at 4 p.m. on Feb. 5 will cover the campus nomination process for these scholarships.
