Resources about Russian invasion of Ukraine available from University Libraries

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Penn State University Libraries subject experts have developed a Library Guide to help inform the Penn State community about the Russian invasion of Ukraine. The guide, available at guides.libraries.psu.edu/ukraine, includes resources about culture, history, political background, news, maps, Penn State responses, and Ukrainian libraries and cultural heritage.

“Librarians have a critical role in equipping our user communities to be effective consumers of the many news sources that are available,” said Faye A. Chadwell, dean of University Libraries and Scholarly Communications. “I am pleased that we can provide this resource to direct users to news sites as well as resources that provide some historical context related to the present conflict.”

The Russian Invasion of Ukraine Library Guide also offers a section on verifying information before sharing it and tips for spotting misleading content on social media and elsewhere. Many Russian news sources have ceased or curtailed reporting due to censorship. In addition, it connects to the existing Library Guide about “fake” news and misinformation and related guides, including Slavic Languages and Literatures, Country Information and Data Sources, Peace and Conflict Studies, Immigration and Refugees, and International Relations.

These and other information resource-rich library guides have been curated by subject-expert faculty librarians. Additional library guides are available at libraries.psu.edu/guides for many subject areas and Penn State courses. While library guides are available for public view, some resources linked within guides may have access restricted to current Penn State students and employees in accordance with vendor agreements.

For more assistance in finding information resources through the University Libraries, library users are encouraged to use the Ask a Librarian service, available via email, phone, text message and by appointment.
