Salman receives the Ardeth and Norman Frisbey International Student Award

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Penn State doctoral student Fariha Salman has been awarded the Ardeth and Norman Frisbey International Student Award. This award, in honor of the Frisbeys, recognizes the personal support the late Norman Frisbey offered during the 27 years Ardeth served in the Office of International Students.

Through a grant received from the Center for Online Innovations in Learning, Salman has developed an augmented reality learning and assessment platform to help high school students learn sustainable engineering design concepts on location at Penn State’s Solar House. The project focused on how augmented reality technology enables transformation of natural and built environments into viable community learning spaces.

To enhance the impact and technological reach of the study, Salman established partnerships at Penn State, MIT, and the Missouri Botanical Gardens. The study’s design and research findings have been presented at multiple conferences and in numerous papers.

A doctoral student in learning design and technology, Salman has been an instructor of advanced research writing skills at the Upward Bound Math and Science Summer STEM Academy and a member of a team that conceptualized and designed technology-driven STEM sessions for a summer camp offered to middle school girls named Girlz Digital World.

Salman was honored during the annual Graduate Student Awards Luncheon held on April 25 at the Nittany Lion Inn.
