UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Penn State's School of Visual Arts (SoVA) has announced the recipients of the 2017-2018 scholarship and awards, whose work is featured in the first annual Scholarship Recipient Exhibition, currently in the Edwin W. Zoller Gallery through Oct. 13. The recipients will be presented with their awards during the Scholarships and Awards Ceremony at 2:30 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 13, in the gallery. A 2 p.m. reception for the exhibition precedes the ceremony.

BRIAN BETZLER MEMORIAL AWARD
Presented in memory of Brian Betzler by his parents Helen and George Betzler Jr., and grandfather George Betzler Sr., to recognize full-time, third- or fourth-year undergraduates in the School of Visual Arts who have exhibited exemplary artistic achievement. CAFD COLLABORATIVE ACHIEVEMENT AWARD
Established by Micaela Amateau Amato, professor emerita of art and women's studies, in honor of SoVA drawing and painting alumni Brian Alfred/Mike Christy/Gerald Davis/Stacy Fink, to recognize students who have generated remarkable creativity and community in the painting and drawing area.

JAMES HOWARD AND BARBARA FRIZZELL CAMPBELL SCHOLARSHIP IN VISUAL ARTS AND THEATRE
In memory of the late James Howard Campbell, (’40 B.A., commerce and finance) and Barbara Frizzell Campbell, by Ellen Campbell (’80 A.D., liberal arts, ’03 M.Ed., curriculum and instruction) and James F. Campbell (’72 B.S., law enforcement and corrections), to provide recognition to undergraduate students majoring in visual arts and theatre.

SIMEON AND ELIZABETH GALLU SCHOLARSHIP
The late Sam Gallu (’40 B.S., arts and letters) established this scholarship in memory of his parents, Simeon and Elizabeth Gallu. Sam became a writer and producer for television and radio, and a playwright whose credits include "Give 'Em Hell Harry." This award recognizes first-year students possessing outstanding talent.

Presented in memory of Margaret Graham Rath (’42 B.S., art education and M.F.A., art) and her husband, Charles J. HARLAN E. AND SUZANNE DUDLEY HOFFA DISSERTATION AWARD IN ART EDUCATION
Established by the late Harlan E. Hoffa (’59 D.Ed.), professor emeritus of art education and former associate dean of research and graduate studies in the College of Arts and Architecture, and the late Suzanne Dudley Hoffa to honor and recognize graduate students whose Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) or Doctor of Education (Ed.D.) dissertation displays professional relevance, scholarly excellence, and clarity of presentation in the art education program in the School of Visual Arts.

Provides recognition and financial assistance for foreign study. Scholarships are awarded to students with plans for a career in teaching.

STEFAN J.S. LEVINE ENDOWMENT
Established by Stefan J.S. Levine (’85 B.S., finance) to support undergraduate research and creative activities for students enrolled full-time in a degree program offered through the School of Visual Arts. Donor prefers that available funds support research and creative activities that provide an opportunity for undergraduate students to experience domestic travel (may include, but not limited to travel expenses, materials and supplies, and registration fees).

MCCOMB MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP IN ART EDUCATION
Consideration for this scholarship shall be given to undergraduate students majoring in art education, and who have completed at least two art education courses attaining a grade point average of 2.7 (on a scale of 4.0) in each art education course. Donor prefers that available funds, to the extent possible, support students who are first generation college students.
