Penn State Addiction Center for Translation will hold its Sixth Annual Penn State Addiction Symposium virtually on Dec. 2 and 3. This year’s symposium will highlight substance use research, treatment, education and community engagement. Susan Sherman will present the keynote address, “The Invisible Impact of Gender: Overdose and HIV Risk Environment of Street-based Female Sex Workers.”
The role of Penn State Addiction Center for Translation and how it can best serve the clinicians, researchers and community affiliates of Penn State, Penn State College of Medicine, Penn State Health Milton S. Hershey Medical Center and beyond will also be discussed.
This two-day event begins from 5 to 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 2, with a virtual networking event for Penn State faculty and staff featuring a presentation by Sherman, professor of health, behavior and society at Johns Hopkins University. She will present "Innovative Approaches to the Opioid Epidemic: Harm Reduction Efforts in the time of COVID."

The symposium will be held virtually from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 3. The symposium will feature poster sessions and a second talk by Sherman: ‘The Invisible Impact of Gender: Overdose and HIV Risk Environment of Street-based Female Sex Workers.’
