UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -- A respected journalist and an accomplished Penn State alumna are set to provide free public lectures as part of Asian-American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month activities coordinated by the College of Communications in March.
Journalist Eugene Paik will present the first lecture at 6 p.m. March 15, in Carnegie Cinema. Paik plans to speak about his career, Hurricane Sandy and being Asian in the media.Paik has written for The Star-Ledger in Newark, N.J., since 2009. He writes about the Federal Emergency Management Agency, currently focusing on New Jersey’s recovery from Hurricane Sandy. Before Paik joined Star-Ledger, he was a staff writer for York (Pa.) Daily Record. His work has been published by The Associated Press and The News Journal in Wilmington, Del.Penn State alumna Jungmiwha Bullock will be the other speaker for the month’s activities. Her free public lecture is scheduled at 6 p.m. March 22, in Carnegie Cinema.Bullock, who earned her degree in advertising/public relations in 2000, serves as the CEO and founder of J.S. Bullock & Associates, an international consulting brokerage that strives to inspire, motivate and connect clients with their educational and professional goals and dreams.Bullock completed her doctorate in the Department of American Studies & Ethnicity at the University of Southern California. She holds a master’s degree in international education and policy from New York University.Bullock is currently working on a book and a global research study about multiracial children orphaned by deployed military personnel abroad, in order to “give voice to the voiceless.” Bullock, who lives in Los Angeles, is also publishing her first children’s book, “Am I Half Giraffe?” and training for the 2013 Nike Women’s Marathon and the Athens Marathon in Greece to raise money for blood-related cancers.
Both of the lectures and related events are coordinated by the Office of Multicultural Affairs in the College of Communications.
