ABINGTON, Pa. — Snowy forecasts such as Winter Storm Stella send Penn State Abington freshman Mike Felt's Facebook page, MidAtlantic Weather Center, into overdrive. He has about 11,000 members who rely on Felt to the point where many consult him about predictions for vacations or business travel.
Felt's social-media following caught the attention of a Philadelphia media site, phillyvoice.com. The resulting story told of Felt's early fascination with the atmosphere, how he taught himself about predicting weather, and the negative reactions meteorologists received to the erroneous forecasts for Winter Storm Stella.
Felt plans to pursue a meteorology and atmospheric science degree at University Park.
Penn State Abington, formerly the Ogontz campus, offers baccalaureate degrees in 18 majors at its suburban location just north of Philadelphia. Nearly half of our 4,000 students complete all four years at Abington, with opportunities in undergraduate research, the Schreyer honors program, NCAA Division III athletics, and more. Students can start the first two years of more than 160 Penn State majors at Abington and complete their degrees at University Park or another campus. Lions Gate, our first residence hall, will open this August.
