Student entries earn numerous awards in national competition

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Eight Penn State entries earned recognition in a recent nationwide competition that honors faculty- and student-created media projects.

More than 1,500 entries from 300 college and universities were submitted for the Broadcast Education Association's (BEA) Festival of Media Arts. Competitive categories were: audio, documentary, film and video, interactive multimedia, news, scriptwriting, sports, and two-year/small colleges.

Students from the Donald P. Bellisario College of Communications drove Penn State’s presence, which included:

  • Grace Hayba, second place, Student News Competition/Television News Anchor
  • Alyssa Cichy, Olivia Hogan and Alex Bobbyn, second place, Television News Magazine
  • Rob Johnson, second place, Television Weathercaster
  • Brandon Pelter, Award of Excellence, Television Sports Talent
  • Katie Kemmerer, Erin Dolan, Hannah Gelle and Paddy Cotter for “Quiet Sundays,” Award of Excellence, Student Documentary
  • Olivia Mullen, Morgon Goranson and Ryan Gebhardt for “Brandi Discovered,” second place, Short Form Video or Film Documentary
  • Anya Swanson, Halle Cottle, Corey Ross-Robertson and Tyler Nyquist for “Intrusion,” Award of Excellence, Student Film and Video-Narrative
  • Joyce Lim, Jacob Hatfield, James Russin and Lauren Rader for “Core,” Award of Excellence, Student Film and Video-Narrative
