UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — The Energy and Environmental Sustainability Laboratories (EESL) announced its 2020-21 funding opportunity for Penn State students. The program, called EESL Green, is now accepting proposals for funding that will support energy and environment, materials and fermentation laboratory research.

The call is open to undergraduate and graduate students at any Penn State campus who are interested in conducting energy or environmental research.

Up to $2,500 is available for each accepted proposal. The full request for proposals is available at https://psu.infoready4.com/#competitionDetail/1834047. Proposals are due by Friday, March 5.

While the Institutes of Energy and the Environment’s (IEE) Energy and Environmental Sustainability Laboratories (EESL) were the initial labs to offer and facilitate EESLGreen, three other Penn State labs are also supporting this year’s program. They are the College of Earth and Mineral Sciences’ Laboratory for Isotopes and Metals in the Environment (LIME), the Materials Characterization Lab Electron Probe MicroAnalysis technique and the Huck Institutes' CSL Behring Fermentation Facility.

“EESL, LIME, MCL and Huck are eager to help students, both undergraduate and graduate, learn how to formulate their research questions, sharpen their proposal- and report-writing skills, but most importantly, support their analytical needs in the fields of energy and environmental sustainability, materials characterization and fermentation by offering needed funding,” said Odette Mina, managing director of EESL.

The Energy and Environmental Sustainability Laboratories are the shared multi-user instrumentation facilities managed by the Institutes of Energy and the Environment.
