UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Penn State’s Center for Socially Responsible Artificial Intelligence (CSRAI) is accepting applications for its Student Affiliates Program. Graduate and undergraduate students from all Penn State campuses are eligible to apply. Applications will remain open indefinitely and can be submitted online.
The Student Affiliates Program connects Penn State students from a broad range of disciplines with other faculty, staff, and scholars who are engaged in AI-related research, education, and outreach. Student Affiliates can collaborate with CSRAI Affiliates on activities related to the center, build their research and professional communities through networking and professional development opportunities, and receive timely communications about CSRAI activities.
“Student Affiliates can help shape the future direction of the center, and conversely the center can help students enhance their education and research while also expanding their networks,” said S. Shyam Sundar, CSRAI director and James P. Jimirro Professor of Media Effects in the Bellisario College of Communications. “By engaging a diverse cross-section of student and faculty scholars, we can stay at the cutting edge of collaborative work and discussions about the future of socially responsible AI.”
The center, which launched in 2020, promotes high-impact, transformative AI research and development, while encouraging the consideration of social and ethical implications in all such efforts. CSRAI supports a broad range of activities from foundational research to the application of AI in all areas of human endeavor and strives to build and advance a community of scholars engaged in socially responsible AI discovery.
