UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Penn State students with spinal cord injury are invited to apply for a full scholarship offered by the Craig H. Neilsen Foundation, in partnership with Penn State’s Student Disability Resources office. Designed to support individuals with spinal cord injury in their pursuit of higher education, the Neilsen Scholarship Program provides undergraduate and graduate student recipients with scholarships and supplemental support as they earn their degrees. The Neilsen Foundation will support up to 10 Penn State students.
“This is an exciting opportunity for students with spinal cord injury at Penn State,” said Keith Jervis, director of Student Disability Resources. “We are very honored to be invited by the Neilsen Foundation to apply for student scholarships.”
The Neilsen Scholarship Program provides full funding for recipients’ tuition, fees, books and supplies for the customary duration of their undergraduate or graduate degree program, subject to ongoing minimum GPA requirements. Recipients also can receive supplemental funding to overcome barriers to academic success, which can include the cost of transportation; caregiver services; adaptive equipment; or assistive technology, housing and child care.
The Neilsen Scholarship Program will be managed at Penn State by the Student Disability Resources office.
“The Neilsen Foundation is delighted to invite Penn State students with spinal cord injury to apply for the Neilsen Scholarship Program, which can make an extraordinary difference in students’ ability to earn their degrees and achieve their ambitions,” said Julea Juarez, program associate for the Neilsen Foundation.
Established in 2002, the Craig H. Neilsen Foundation is dedicated to supporting both programs and scientific research to improve the quality of life for those affected by and living with spinal cord injury. The Neilsen Foundation’s funding decisions are driven by its core values: excellence, leadership, accountability, innovation and collaboration. The foundation's portfolios support scientific, charitable and educational organizations conducting spinal cord injury research, training in spinal cord medicine, and providing services to assist individuals and families affected by spinal cord injury. One of five portfolios, the Neilsen Scholarship Program supports students with spinal cord injury in their pursuit of higher education.
