UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Three Schreyer Honors College (SHC) Scholars will serve as student marshals for Penn State’s Fall 2015 Commencement ceremonies on the University Park campus: Ian Button, from Bellefonte; Nia Sherony, of Mechanicsburg; and Timothy Sullivan, of Harleysville. All have grade point averages of 3.97 or higher. The SHC Medals Ceremony is set for Friday, Dec. 18, at the Penn Stater Hotel Conference Center. Penn State Fall Commencement ceremonies take place throughout the day on Saturday, Dec. 19, at the Bryce Jordan Center.
Button will represent the Smeal College of Business, graduating with honors with a degree in finance as well as a bachelor of science in German from the College of the Liberal Arts.
"It is a great honor to represent both the Schreyer and Smeal communities as the College of Business student marshal this December, one I would not have earned were it not for the guidance and support of my family, friends and mentors,” said Button. “Because of them, I will have the distinct privilege of leading my classmates as we cross the threshold into our future careers."
The student marshal for the College of Communications is Nia Sherony. Double-majoring in advertising and public relations from the College of Communications and in information sciences and technology from the College of Information Sciences and Technology, she will earn interdisciplinary honors in both areas. Sherony possesses a perfect 4.0 grade point average.
“I'm really excited and honored to represent the College of Communications as student marshal,” Sherony said. “I worked at The Daily Collegian for two years, and more recently I had the opportunity to learn about research while working with Dr. Sundar on my thesis. There's so much going on in the Carnegie Building, and with my experiences over the last three and a half years, this will be another amazing memory from my time at Penn State.”
Sullivan will represent the College of the Liberal Arts and will graduate with dual degrees in psychology and French and Francophone studies. He earned his area of honors in psychology.
"Being chosen as a student marshal for the College of the Liberal Arts is a truly unique, humbling experience,” Sullivan said. “I'm honored to serve in this role and to represent a component of the University that has provided me with tremendous opportunity throughout my undergraduate career." The schedule for all Penn State Fall 2015 Commencement activities at University Park is located here.
