Undergraduate engineering programs once again rank among nation's best

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — In the recently released 2022 U.S. News & World Report Best Undergraduate Engineering Programs rankings, the Penn State College of Engineering ranks No. 21 in the country, advancing one place from last year’s report. Among public engineering programs, Penn State ranks 12th in the nation.

In the rankings of engineering specialty areas, the following ranked among the top 30 overall:

  • Aerospace/aeronautical/astronautical engineering (17) 

  • Biological/agricultural engineering (6) 

  • Biomedical engineering (27) 

  • Chemical engineering (20) 

  • Civil engineering (13) 

  • Computer engineering (25) 

  • Electrical/electronic/communications engineering (20) 

  • Environmental/environmental health engineering (17) 

  • Industrial/manufacturing engineering (6) 

  • Materials engineering (10) 

  • Mechanical engineering (15) 

  • Petroleum engineering (5)

The U.S. News & World Report Best Undergraduate Engineering Programs rankings are based on the judgments of deans and senior faculty at peer institutions. Architectural engineering, computer science, engineering science and nuclear engineering are not ranked in this process. A summary of the college’s rankings is available online.
