UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Advocate Penn State Capital Day will return to the state Capitol in Harrisburg on March 24 — bringing hundreds of Penn Staters from across the University community to meet with their elected officials and share stories of the many ways Penn State benefits the Commonwealth and its residents as a 21st century land-grant institution.

Sponsored by Advocate Penn State and Penn State’s Office of Government and Community Relations, the event serves as the University’s largest single-day advocacy event. Advocate Penn State Capital Day offers an opportunity to demonstrate the impact of Penn State on the Commonwealth while advocating for accessible and affordable education.

All Penn State students, alumni, employees and supporters are invited and encouraged to attend the event to meet and speak with their state legislators about the importance of Penn State. Registration is available online at the Advocate Penn State Capital Day website, and training materials will be provided ahead of the event to help attendees prepare.

Students from all campuses and academic disciplines are encouraged to attend Capital Day to share their Penn State experience with Pennsylvania’s elected officials.

“Our students are among our strongest and most passionate advocates for our University,” said Zack Moore, Penn State’s vice president for Government and Community Relations. “It is extremely important for elected officials to hear from students in their own voice, and we hope to that many of our incredible students come to Harrisburg to share their stories and their Penn State pride.

Lion Caucus, a University-affiliated student organization, is working with the University Park Undergraduate Association and the Council of Commonwealth Student Governments to provide transportation to and from Harrisburg for students interested in attending. Breakfast and lunch will also be provided for all attendees.

This year’s Advocate Penn State Capital Day will continue many of the event’s yearly traditions, including a Penn State rally in the Capital Rotunda. The rally will feature Penn State’s famed Berkey Creamery ice cream, an appearance from the Nittany Lion, a performance by the Blue Band, and remarks from current students and Penn State President Eric Barron. The event will also include opportunities for students to speak directly with legislators and network with representatives from Penn State programs that have an impact across the Commonwealth.
