Anna Barone named director of Student and Family Services

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Anna Barone has been named director of Student and Family Services, a unit of Penn State Student Affairs, effective March 15. Barone will be transitioning to her new role from the Office of Student Conduct, where she has served as associate director since 2014. In her role with the Office of Student Conduct, Barone was the direct liaison to Residence Life on student conduct issues.

"I have an intrinsic drive to advocate for equity in process and approach for college students and their families, especially when unanticipated challenges arise,” said Barone. “This role will allow me to be even more effective than ever in meeting students’ needs on a holistic level. As director of Student and Family Services, I look forward to being able to combine my diverse experience and cross-campus relationships to immediately make a difference in this role."

Student and Family Services provides resources, support and intervention to students and families during critical situations. The office takes a student-centered approach when dealing with a variety of student and family emergencies, personal crises, and student incidents.

"I am thrilled that Anna has accepted our offer to lead the office as the new director of Student and Family Services,” said Joseph Puzycki, assistant vice president for Student Affairs. “Anna brings with her a wealth of experience in student affairs. In her new role, she will move the mission of the office forward, which includes serving our students during difficult times. This is at the heart of what we should be providing for our students."

Prior to coming to Penn State, Barone was a student conduct coordinator at the College at Brockport in Brockport, New York, from 2011 to 2014, where she oversaw the student conduct system in collaboration with entities across campus. She also spent two years as an assistant director in the Office of Student Accountability and Restorative Practices at James Madison University in Harrisonburg, Virginia.
