UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — For full-time University staff employees, now is the time to set goals for the 2018-19 performance management cycle. The first step, setting goals and expectations, should be finalized by Friday, Aug. 31.
“Performance management is a crucial component of the Penn State staff employee experience,” said Sara Oliver-Carter, senior director of talent, diversity and inclusion for Penn State Human Resources. “The annual performance process supports individuals in meeting their goals and provides an improved understanding on how their work impacts the ongoing success of the University.”
Penn State’s annual performance management cycle consists of three primary steps — setting goals and expectations; a mid-year check-in; and an end-of-year review — with ongoing conversations happening throughout the year between staff employees and their supervisors. Each step of the process is captured in Workday.
During the first step, setting goals and expectations, staff members meet with their supervisors to review their Job Responsibilities Worksheet and discuss expectations and goals for the year.
“In order to start the year off right, we ask that all full-time staff employees talk with their supervisors about their goals for 2018-19. Throughout the year, employees and supervisors should continue having conversations and open dialogue,” said Oliver-Carter.
Additional resources, including an overview of the performance management process, training registration and detailed timelines for completing 2018-19 performance management activities are available by visiting the Penn State HR website.
